Welcome to Social Justice Composition!

ENG 101: Social Justice Composition addresses the major principles of college writing through either or both a Social Justice or Critical Theory lens.  The course concentrates on expository and argumentative writing; traditional and contemporary rhetorical modes; and effective composting, revising, and editing strategies. Social Justice Composition covers MLA conventions and requires a six-eight page research paper.

Students will be exposed to past and present texts that expose the genealogy of power and how it functions in contemporary society.  These texts will not only illuminate discriminatory and oppressive practices, but they will also create the space for individually and collectively engaging in generative classroom conversations and agentive writing assignments that speak to and disrupt inequitable power practices.

In an attempt to effectively support students in successfully completing Social Justice Composition, I will be hosting live sessions on Wednesdays from 12-1:30 pm via Blackboard Collaborate. Please attend class if you are able to do so.  Moreover, I will be hosting office hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am – 12 pm and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 pm. You can schedule your office appointment hours here. Please take advantage of the supports I am providing, and feel free to contact me at jordan.bell@sunydutchess.edu if there is anything else that I can do to support you.
